Advocacy
SSVMS and CMA have several key priorities and strategic initiatives for the year. One major focus is implementing Proposition 35, the voter-approved measure ensuring increased funding for Medi-Cal provider rates and health care workforce development. SSVMS and CMA are working closely with state agencies, legislators, and stakeholders to ensure these funds are properly allocated and they effectively enhance health care access and equity.
Additional efforts include addressing challenges related to wildfire impacts on health care infrastructure, advocating for improvements in the practice environment, and securing fair reimbursement rates for physicians. SSVMS and CMA are also prioritizing reducing administrative burdens such as prior authorization delays, tackling the growing role of artificial intelligence in health care, physician wellness initiatives, and protecting against corporate intrusions in medical practice. Legislative advocacy remains a core focus, particularly regarding Medicare payment reforms, preserving health care funding under federal policy shifts, and ensuring physicians' voices are represented in state and national policy discussions.
