Emergency Care Services, Public Health Funding, A New Editor, and More

 

 

SSVMS Committees – Recent Activity

 

Editorial Committee

The Editorial Committee is responsible for planning, soliciting articles, editing, and publishing SSV Medicine. The Committee met in June and July to introduce Sara Appel as the new SSV Medicine Editor and to discuss new articles on items such as artificial intimacy, yellow fever, and lifestyle medicine.

 

Emergency Care Committee

The Emergency Care Committee studies issues related to emergency care services and facilities, trauma, patient transport and triage, disaster preparedness and on-call issues within the region. The Committee also serves as liaison with government agencies responsible for emergency services, transport and disaster planning. Further, the Emergency Care Committee provides quality improvement oversight to SSVMS’s SMART Medical Clearance Protocol. The Committee met in June to discuss the high spikes of usage due to multiple viruses, as well as funding concerns.

 

Public and Environmental Health Committee

The Public and Environmental Health Committee studies and makes recommendations regarding public and environmental health issues affecting the health and well-being of our community. The Committee met in May and June to discuss county public health budgets and the current state of congenital syphilis in the Greater Sacramento Area.

 

SPIRIT Management Committee

Comprised of representatives from Dignity Health, Sutter Health, Kaiser Permanente, UC Davis Health and Sacramento County Health Services; the SPIRIT Management Committee provides support for donated medical care to the Sacramento Region’s uninsured and medically indigent. The Committee met in June to analyze program usage over the first six months of 2025.
